Shelly Beach Manly
Shelly Beach Manly is one of my favourite beaches in Australia. It is a tucked away cove and a perfect location for snorkelling. Shelly beach has a mixture of shingle and sand.
There are some nice areas to walk to from Shelly Beach too. The steps to the walking areas are at the back of the Beach and here you are likely to catch glimpses of the bush turkeys.
The water here is generally calm, perfect for swimming, paddle boarding or snorkelling.
Beach barbecues are also available for use free of charge, you don’t even need to pay for the gas used!. They are generally left very clean, probably because it is part of Australian lifestyle. But take something to clean it up a bit, just in case! Disinfectant bbq wipes are available from the nearby supermarket, Coles, in Manly. There are seating areas around the barbecues as well, if you prefer not to sit on the sand.
If you get hungry and don’t want to cook your own food, then there are a couple of restaurants nearby. One is right beside the beach and another is half way between Manly Beach and Shelly Beach, The Bower. I stopped here just for refreshments one day. It’s a nice place to go for a drink. There is also outdoor seating overlooking the ocean so a perfect place to dine or drink when travelling solo. It is very casual. There is also a charming little gift shop here too.
If you have a bit of a fear of the ocean but would really like to take a dip then try the rock pool at Fairy Bower. This is a 5 minute walk from Shelly Beach, along the paved area to Manly Beach. Fairy Bower rock pool was built by locals almost 100 years ago and it is a great place to cool down. Toilets and changing areas are nearby for convenience too.
