Manly Wharf is a buzzing place to be. It is a hive of activity. Some people are heading out of Manly to go to Circular Quay. Others, getting off the ferry to come into Manly.
Where to Eat at Manly Wharf
The wharf itself contains a number of sit down restaurants and snack bars including Hugos, Chat Thai and The Bavarian Beer Cafe, Max Brenner’s Chocolate Cafe and Guzman Y Gomez Mexican Taqueria. Hugo’s and The Bavarian Beer Cafe are located on the water’s edge and are perfect places to watch the sunset.
The Noisy Lorikeets at Manly Wharf
As the sun starts to set, the noise from the lorikeets heading back to the trees to sleep is phenomenal!
Things to do at Manly Wharf
Manly Kayak Centre is also located here. You can book a number of trips from here or hire a self-drive boat, hire a SUP or a kayak. I didn’t hire anything on this trip but I came to Manly a couple of years ago and hired a boat and paddle board from them and I thought the service was great. Some nice activities to do here as a solo traveller so maybe check them out if you are heading to Manly.
There are 2 areas of beach at Manly Wharf here, one Harbourside, where the small boats are moored up and the ferries come in.
The other area of beach has a safe swimming area netted off and is also perfect to sit on the wall or the sand, with a takeaway and watch the sunset. They really are amazing from here.
Once it gets dark, the beach area is patrolled by volunteers wardens, to protect the Little Penguins. You may be lucky enough to spot one as they return to their burrows at sunset! They come to Manly to breed every year between May-February.
Is Manly Wharf suitable for solo travellers?
Yes, yes, yes! Manly Wharf is a great place to come as a solo traveller. It is a bustling place with lots going on and plenty to look at. It is great for people watching, drinking or dining alone or simply watching the sunset!
