Tuscany has some wonderful places to eat whether you are just looking for a snack on the go or, a sit down meal. Some are located on busy piazzas with views of iconic buildings such as Florence Cathedral and it’s enormous dome. They may have outdoor dining areas as well as indoor which are great for watching the world go by. Other Florence restaurants include traditional Trattoria’s, tucked away in the narrow, cobbled streets.
As well as restaurants in Florence serving delicious pasta dishes and pizzas there are several tempting local dishes to try too. Local dishes include Bistecca alla Fiorentina – a large T-bone steak seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon. Ribollita is a soup made from bread, beans and vegetables. Lampredotto is another favourite amongst locals and tourists alike. This is a popular sandwich filling made from a cow’s fourth stomach.
Osteria Antica Mescita San Niccolo is a super little restaurant is located south of the River Arno and is well worth a visit! It could be combined with a visit to Piazzale Michelangelo and the Rose Garden which are nearby. This restaurant in Florence is a true Italian gem, serving tempting, traditional local dishes in a beautiful setting.
This restaurant is located in a prominent position on Piazza di San Giovanni with views of Florence Cathedral. It serves mainly pizzas, pasta and salad dishes. The creamy carbonara I had was very good.
The gelato from here was out of this world!!! Caffe Corona is a busy cafe situated on Via dei Calzaiuol. As well as ice cream, it serves a range of tempting snacks including pastries and small sandwiches.
Move On – Italian Pub and Record Store
Move On is another great place to eat with seating areas indoors and outdoors on Piazza di San Giovanni. This friendly restaurants serves pizzas, crostini, salads and burgers. Additionally there is a store selling new and second hand vinyl records. The pizza I had here was excellent.
Mercato Centrale – Food Court
Mercato Centrale is a great place for casual dining options in Florence and is popular with locals and tourists. The food court in the undercover market place sells a variety of food at reasonable prices including pizzas, sushi, cheese, dumplings, bread and chicken. Once you have purchased your food, take it to one of the large tables within the food court. There were lots of others dining alone here.
