Hotel Luxor, Florence

Hotel Luxor, Viale Fratelli Rosselli, 71 50144 Firenze

Don’t judge a book by its cover… Hotel Luxor is not in one of the most attractive locations and doesn’t look too impressive from the outside either. But, my room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff here are amazingly helpful and friendly. They can’t do enough to please you.

Hotel Luxor

About the Hotel

Hotel Luxor has a 3* rating and it has been open for just a few years. It is well located for walking to all the local attractions. In my opinion it is a ‘no frills’ hotel where the positives outweigh the negatives.

On Arrival

On arrival I was greeted in the small reception area by 2 enthusiastic, very friendly members of staff. Elisabetta was very keen to make me a complimentary coffee. It was very good coffee too! On checking in, I paid city tax in cash which cost Euros 4 per night. I was told by one of the staff that she would be very happy to organise any tours or activities if required and provide me with a map of the local area. Basically, they were willing and keen to help in any way they could. I was given the key to my room which was accessed by stairs. There was not a lift at the hotel.

My Accommodation

I stayed in a double superior room. My room was simply furnished with a comfortable bed.

Interior of Hotel Luxor

The wardrobe area was adequate for my short stay. The ensuite bathroom with shower was effective with a decent amount of water pressure from the shower. There was also a hairdryer, magnifying mirror, complimentary toiletries, ample towels, minibar (chargeable), phone, safe and tea and coffee making facilities.

Interior of the Double Superior Room

  • 24 hour reception
  • Lounge bar/Breakfast room – drinks are served here until late in the evening. It was good to be able to come back to my room at night and order a drink to have here or take up to my room. The room is also set up for breakfast in the morning
  • Garage with valet parking service for Euros 25 per night
  • Seating area on the first floor

Breakfast consisted of a selection of fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast, pastries, bread, meat, cheese and conserves. Help yourself to food and juice and the waitress will bring your choice of hot drink to your table.

Advantages for a solo traveller and reasons why I would return

  • 24 hour reception
  • Walking distance to local attractions
  • 2 minutes walk from the tram line
  • 7 minutes walk to the main Santa Maria Novella train station
  • Exceptional hospitality from all members of staff
  • Breakfast was included
  • Costing £105 per night for a midweek stay in April offered great value for money
  • Free wifi (although mine would not connect for some reason!)
  • In-room safe
  • In-room phone – I was grateful for this as wifi was not working for me
  • Hairdryer was included so I could travel light!

  • There was quite a lot of noise from the trains. The track runs beside the hotel so this is also the outlook from the window of the room I was in
  • Hotel is situated close to a main road
  • Walls were quite thin. The people next-door to me kept plugging in and unplugging things! Sounded like it was in the room with me.
