Pokolbin Village Resort in the Hunter Valley

Pokolbin Village Resort, Hunter Valley, Australia

Pokolbin Village Resort in the Hunter Valley is a real ‘get away from it all’ resort.  I felt as if I was in the middle of nowhere and had gone back in time.  The resort is peaceful with plenty of birdlife and it offered good value for money at AU$125 for the night.  This converted to around £70.

I stayed at this resort with my daughter for one night so not strictly travelling solo.  However, I would recommend it for someone who is a solo traveller and I would definitely return by myself.

Check out my blog post on the guided wine tour I combined with my stay at this hotel, if you are looking for a great day trip!

Standard Queen Suite at Pokolbin Village

We stayed in a Standard Queen Suite.  These room types were basically chalets set within the 40 acres of grounds.  They were not fancy but nor were they dated. They were a good size for 1 or 2 people.  The bed was comfortable and although the bathroom was small, the shower was a good size and powerful enough.  A fridge was provided as well as tea and coffee making facilities and a toaster.  To the outside there was a verandah with seating area.

Wifi was fully available and the rooms have reverse cycle air conditioning units which were effective.  There was a telephone in the room, which would have been an advantage travelling solo.

Onsite Facilities at Pokolbin Village

On site is an outdoor pool with sun loungers around.   Staff on the wine tour informed that in this region temperatures can sometimes soar into the high 40s and even higher at times.   Tennis courts are also available for use.

There is a restaurant about a 5 minute walk away, Blaxland Inn.  You have to walk across the grass to get there but you need to walk along the main road to return at night.  The grass is very uneven so I wouldn’t recommend it in the dark!  If you are travelling solo, it’s good to know the restaurant provides a courtesy bus back to the accommodation so you do not need to walk in the dark.  However, barbecues are provided for use if you prefer not to eat out.

Also on site  is a general store, Smelly Deli, a chocolate, fudge and jam store and giftware shop.   The Smelly Deli sold amazing olives stuffed with blue cheese!  The cheeses were available for tasting as well and they were good!!
