Bondi is another beach suburb I can recommend as a solo traveller in terms of things to do and being on your own. As an iconic Australian beach, I needed to take a look. However, I have to say, it wasn’t one of my favourite beaches. As far as big beaches go, I much prefer Manly and the smaller ones such as Shelly are so much more beautiful.
Unfortunately the day I went, it was freezing cold and the beach was quite empty. However, the town itself is busy with plenty of shops, restaurants and coffee shops. It is a casual suburb, popular with backpackers so plenty of other solo travellers around too.
Things to Do at Bondi
There is a walk along the clifftops which leads to Coogee, another local suburb, for those who want to explore the area and take in the views. Alternatively, take a dip in the safe swim area which is marked out by flags or swim in the rock pool. If skateboarding is your thing, then there is a beachfront skate park worth a visit.
I have no idea why I chose to have an ice cream on such a cold day, but I did! Actually when you look at the flavours, you will see why. I loved the different flavours on offer at Gelatissimo. Golden macadamia blondie, salted macadamia and dulce de leech to name a few. Certainly some different flavours than I can have back home! The hokey pokey comes recommended which is toffee with honeycomb!
Westfield at Bondi Junction
About half an hour’s walk away or a 5 minute taxi ride, is Westfield Shopping Mall at Bondi Junction. It’s a typical Westfield but still a great way to spend a cold afternoon!
