177 Balham High Road, London SW12 9BX
Well placed for Central London. London Victoria is less than 15 minutes away by train and London Bridge is 17 minutes by tube. The hotel is right next door to Balham underground station.
I have stayed in this hotel lots of times. The rooms are basic but always clean. The king sized beds are extremely comfortable with 4 soft pillows. The showers cubicles are small, but adequate and bodywash/shampoo is included. A kettle is provided in the room with tea, coffee, milk and sugar as well as a wall mounted TV with Freeview. The rooms have an area of hanging space for your clothes, a desk with a chair, lamp and a fan. Ask at reception if you would like to borrow a hairdryer, iron or ironing board. These are available on request and cannot be guaranteed if they are loaned out to other guests.
There are now some super rooms available which are more spacious and offer a little more than the standard rooms. These are more expensive and I have to say, I wouldn’t feel the need to pay the extra since I am happy with the other rooms.
Extras include a power shower, desk with charging points and desk light, 32″ slimline TV, coffee machines, black out curtains, choice of firm or soft pillows and an ‘in room’ iron with ironing board.
1. The windows did not open which generally wouldn’t be a problem. However, one time I stayed here in the middle of a heatwave and the room was uncomfortably hot. An extra fan was given to me, but it failed to help. It just circulated the already hot air in my opinion. Freak weather for London though!!
2. There is not a bar/restaurant area at this branch of Travelodge. However breakfast boxes are available at an additional cost of £5.25 and there is a lovely cafe next door, Gail’s for breakfast or lunch. There are also plenty of places to eat and drink nearby day or night.
30 minutes wifi is included in the price of the hotel. For an additional fee of £3 you can have 24 hours of wifi.
I generally park in the side street next to the hotel. Parking is free on Sundays and from 5:30pm until 9:30am. Outside of these hours, parking is available for a maximum of 4 hours and will cost £9.20.
