South Point, English Harbour

South Point, St Paul, English Harbour, Antigua – open daily for lunch and dinner from 6-10pm

The entrance to the luxurious South Point hotel is via a rather grand piano bar with comfortable seating areas.

A welcoming member of staff leads you downstairs to the Asian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern inspired restaurant with its exceptional waterfront location.

Seating Area

The decked seating area is made up of white wooden tables and chairs with padded red seats. You can smell the sea air and listen to the tree frogs while looking out across the harbour from your table by the waters edge. This combined with the glow from the small lanterns and the twinkling lights across the water creates a relaxing ambience.

Menu

An extensive sushi menu is available although in my opinion, this is better suited to sharing with someone rather than solo dining. I therefore selected my dishes from the alternative, a la carte menu.

Hot & Cold Starters/Salads range from EC$32-83 plus a sharing dish for EC$125. Choices include…

  • Asian style tuna tartare, avocado, pomegranate, soya and sesame oil dressing
  • Ceviche trio : a blend of local catch, yellowfin tuna, conch and mahi mahi, marinated in 3 different ways
  • Seafood bouillabaisse, medley of fresh seafood, thai style coconut and curry sauce
  • Caribbean grilled chicken salad, Antigua black pineapple, orange, dried cranberries, red bell peppers roasted onion, honey and lime vinaigrette

Main Courses and Salads from EC$40-125

  • Fire roasted New Zealand rack of lamb, sautéed asparagus, light mint sauce
  • Grilled veggie, a medley of zucchini, eggplant, asparagus and yellow pumpkin
  • Barbuda grilled lobster, local ground provisions market vegetables and a vodka cream sauce

Side Orders from EC$12-18

  • Vegetable quinoa
  • Hand cut fries, plain or w/ Parmiggiano Reggiano and truffle oil

My Choice

I chose the catch of the day, mahi mahi, freshly delivered from their favourite fishermen. This was served with perfectly grilled, al dente vegetables atop caramelized sweet potato and dressed with a lemon and a creamy caper sauce. Southpoint is certainly a fine dining experience. The food is exquisite and cooked to perfection.

Desserts EC$25-55

  • Bread and butter pudding, caramel and English Harbour 5’s Rum sauce
  • Classic Illy espresso tiramisu

I chose the homemade sorbet – ginger and lime which was very refreshing with a subtle flavour.

Service

The service was excellent. The waitress was efficient and friendly. Drink and food orders were taken promptly and courses were well spaced out so the meal was not rushed.

Would I Return?

I would definitely return to South Point. It was super for solo dining for the following reasons…

  • Waterside location overlooking the harbour rather than other diners
  • Friendly, welcoming staff
  • Casual and relaxed fine dining with excellent food
  • Good location
