Here are 4 Asian restaurants I can recommend for solo dining when in London…
1. Dishoom, Covent Garden
This large Indian restaurant is conveniently located in London’s Covent Garden. It is incredibly popular and when you taste the food, you will see why. You may have noticed a long queue outside but, believe me, it is worth the wait. Dishoom works closely with 2 charities. Its’ ethos is to break down barriers between people, something which is close to my heart. Food is reasonably priced and includes some interesting and unusual dishes. One of the desserts available is ‘Kala Khatta Gola Ice’ – flakes of ice steeped in hokum fruit syrup, blueberries, chilli, lime, white and black salt.

2. Punjab, Covent Garden
Punjab is the UK’s oldest North Indian restaurant. It has been at its current site since 1951, when it was relocated close to the Indian Embassy. This is because the Indian Officers were missing home cooked Punjabi food. The food here was outstanding. I was seated in an area where there were other solo diners. This may have been a coincidence but it was a nice touch if not. I thoroughly enjoyed the Acharri Murgha that I ordered – succulent chunks of chicken covered in a thick, tangy, spicy sauce.

3. Banana Tree, Soho
A casual Pan Asian restaurant playing modern music and it is a delight for solo diners. A long bench beside the window is ideal to sit at and people watch! The extensive menu has plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans. The chilli kafir lime and cashew nuts with vegan bites was exquisite, with a great combination of flavours and textures.

4. Thai Square – South Kensington
Thai Square is a longstanding chain of Thai restaurants that serves all time favourite dishes. The food tastes fresh and hand selected ingredients are flown in direct from Thailand every day. The South Kensington branch is quite small and the tables are close together but for lunchtime I thought it was great for dining alone. The express lunch menu ensures a fast turnaround of dishes and makes it an ideal place to replenish your energy. Thai Square is well located for exploring the 3 local popular museums, Natural History, Victoria & Albert and Science.
